Enable desktop notifications
Enable desktop app notifications on MacOS and Windows computers
System settings can sometimes interfere with Threads notification delivery. If you're not receiving notifications, see the steps below to troubleshoot.
If you have 'Do Not Disturb' turned on, Threads will not send you notifications. You can check whether you have it turned on by hitting "cmd +k" on mac or "ctrl k" on Windows and then searching for "Do not disturb." You should also see a yellow circle next to your name if you have 'Do Not Disturb' turned on.
- 1.When you first install the desktop app, you should see a banner to enable desktop app notifications
- 2.Click Enable Desktop App Notifications
- 3.You should see a notification appear. Hover over the notification, click Options and then Allow.

- 1.Open your computer's System Preferences, then click Notifications
- 2.Select Threads from the list
- 3.Make sure your alert style is either set to Banners or Alerts. If your device is running macOS 10.15, toggle Allow Notifications from Threads on, and then choose an alert style.
- 1.Click the toggle icon on the top right corner of your screen to open the Mac Notification Center
- 2.Click Do Not Disturb and make sure it's toggled off. Make sure focus mode is not enabled, or you have added the Threads app to your focus mode apps using these instructions.
Mac only allows our app to prompt you for notification permissions once. In order to receive the prompt again, follow these steps:
- 1.Uninstall the Threads app from your computer. You can do this by closing the Threads app, and opening Applications in your finder, and then moving the Threads app to the trash.
- 2.Open Threads on a web page, and use "cmd +k" to search for Install Desktop app
- 3.Follow the steps for enabling notifications for the first time
Force quit the app and restart your device.
Sometimes notification issues can be fixed by restarting your phone or tablet.
